We are launching a new series, Stone Stories, to give you a peek into the professional minds of our Barristers and Clerks. We have asked our team to answer 5 questions to show their unique insights, experiences, and personalities.
First up is Emile Yusupoff! Read his answers below.
What’s an “insult” you’ve received that you’re proud of?
“Elegant but vapid” – an assessment of my advocacy in the first mock trial competition I did as a GDL student. Given that my team was entered late, meaning I had had an afternoon to prepare for my first (and one of my very few) forays into criminal procedure, I was quite happy to be told I could still present well even when I obviously had no idea what I was talking about!
What is a common myth about your job or field of expertise?
Shipping law is boring/impenetrable” – Once you get past the distinctive terminology and some of the more esoteric rules, it’s actually about solving sets of interconnected puzzles and the application of classic contract law principles in a particular context.
At what time of day do you get your best work done?
Around 4pm.
What occupation (other than your own) would you like to try?
Running the IMF.
In your opinion, what is the most important personality trait/strength someone would need to work in your industry/be successful in your job?
“Resilience.”
