For our next instalment of Stone Stories, we’re pleased to introduce Dr Satya Talwar Mouland. Satya joined the 36 Group as a pupil, now practising as a member with 36 Stone, instructed in a broad range of Commercial Law and International Arbitration matters.
In your opinion, what is the most important personality trait/strength someone would need to work in your industry/be successful in your job?
“Resilience – waking up each day, ready to face anything, including the unexpected! I thrive on the feeling of being at court and having to adapt to novel situations and learning from those new situations. I just love it.”
What cause are you passionate about?
“The climate crisis – this is an issue which affects us all and will affect future generations, and one which I hope will be high on the agenda of this new Government.”
Dead or alive, which famous person would you most like to have dinner with, and why?
“David Bowie – his creativity and exuberance inspires me. I think meeting him and learning about what inspires his creativity would feed into my work as a lawyer and would help me think outside the box. When I need an idea, one of my go to solutions has always been to play or write music.”
What’s an “insult” you’ve received that you’re proud of?
“Being too “quirky” for a law firm – very happy to be quirky!”
What occupation (other than your own) would you like to try?
“Musician – I have always been creative and love being creative in the law. Music allows me to be creatively free. I was trained in clarinet and piano, which taught me teamwork and precision. Learning music and being in orchestras and choirs makes me a better barrister – my other dream career!”
