We are proud to announce that Mary Prior KC, has been appointed Co-Chair of the Ministry of Justice Child (Criminal) Advocacy Expert Advisory Group, alongside Caroline Liggins of Hodge Jones & Allen.
The Group has been established to advise the Ministry of Justice on specialist training requirements for lawyers representing children in criminal proceedings. Its work will include defining professional practice standards, developing the core curriculum for specialisation, setting out how competence will be assessed, and proposing a framework for registration of specialist child criminal advocates.
With support from Justice Ministers, Jake Richards MP and Sarah Sackman MP, this initiative aims to change the way lawyers are trained in youth justice and strengthen advocacy for children at every stage of the process.
This marks a significant step towards changing the way lawyers are trained in youth justice and strengthening standards across police stations, youth courts and appeals.
