David Ball and Beheshteh Engineer

David Ball and Beheshteh Engineer were invited by the Council of Europe to deliver presentations in Armenia on the principles, application and case law regarding Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, and on best practice in executing the European Court of Human Rights’ judgments at a national level.

David and Beheshteh presented to senior judges of Armenia’s Court of Cassation, staff from the Court’s department of Research Excellence, the Prosecutor General of Armenia, prosecutors from her office, Council of Europe lawyers and staff, and staff from the Prime Minister’s office.

David and Beheshteh tackled various complex questions about how Article 3 should be considered by the court in the context of extradition and removal cases, how evidence can be analysed and weighed, and the issue of assurances, drawing on their extensive experience defending and prosecuting in such cases in England & Wales.

It was an honour for members of 36 Extradition to be part of Armenia’s continued strengthening of their human rights jurisprudence.
