Key cases & testimonials

R v RS and others – Led junior for the second defendant in a four month, multi-handed fraud and money laundering trial arising from alleged fraudulent property investments in Germany and Portugal. The prosecution alleged that approximately half a million pounds of criminal property had passed through accounts in the defendant’s name. Detailed analysis of banking records formed a central part of the defence. The defendant was acquitted.

R v AF and others – Led junior in a three month, six- defendant trial concerning allegations of attempted murder and firearms offences arising from alleged gang rivalry. The case against the defendant turned on CCTV, identification evidence, telephone records and cell site material. The defendant was acquitted.

R v DM and others – Led junior in a multi-defendant conspiracy to supply Class A drugs concerning a drugs line operated from within prison. The prosecution relied on a substantial volume of evidence, including prison calls, social media communications, telephone downloads, cell site evidence and ANPR material.

R v SL – Junior alone for the defence of a serving prisoner accused of sexually assaulting a teacher working within the prison. The prosecution relied on CCTV and significant bad character evidence. Detailed analysis of the footage exposed inconsistencies in the complainant’s account. The client was unanimously acquitted following a short jury retirement.

R v FS – Represented a vulnerable defendant who had been found unfit to plead in a trial of the act. The proceedings involved psychiatric evidence and issues concerning effective participation. Successfully advanced a submission of no case to answer.

R v RR – Represented the defendant at sentence for multiple offences of robbery and ABH. The case required detailed application of the Sentencing Council guideline for offenders with mental disorders. Successfully persuaded the court that the circumstances justified a departure from the ordinary guideline outcome, securing a suspended sentence where a custodial term of over five years was in prospect.
