Doran Doeh has over 40 years of experience as an English-qualified legal practitioner, initially as a barrister and subsequently as a solicitor with Allen & Overy and Dentons. He was based in London for many years and then in Moscow. He has extensive legal experience of the international petroleum industry, both in-house and in private practice. He worked in the City of London for over a decade, during which he became known for his work on oil and gas M&A transactions as well as his financial services regulatory expertise.  He advised clients on commercial and financing transactions in Russia for over 25 years and was valued for his strategic counsel.

In April 2019 he returned to practice in London as an international arbitrator from 36 Stone. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.  He is familiar with the principles of common law and civil law legal systems.

He focuses on disputes relating to matters arising in the following areas.

Areas of expertise

He has dealt with oil and gas related legal work in the UK and internationally since 1975.  He was in-house with Burmah/BNOC/Britoil from1975 to 1986 and in private practice at international law firms from 1986 until March 2019. His clients have included IOCs, NOCs, independent explorers and producers, traders, suppliers, and service companies. He has experience upstream, midstream, and downstream.

He has extensive experience of M&A in the natural resources and other industries in the UK and Russia, including some of the largest M&A deals in Russia in 2004 (tobacco) and in 2015 and 2016 (oil).

At Denton Wilde Sapte during the ‘00s, he managed one of the leading banking and finance legal practices in Russia, including trade and structured commodities finance, ECA financings, project financing and aviation finance.

Combining his experience in-house (oil trading contracts, charterparties, lifting and terminal procedures) and in private practice (financial services regulation – including commodities trading and derivatives), he can deal with a wide range of commodities and shipping disputes.

He has been working in and with Russia and other countries of the CIS since 1991.

His experience includes:

Senior partner of the combined Dentons Moscow office (2013-17) and managing partner of the legacy Denton Wilde Sapte and SNR Denton offices (2001-12);

Head of office and head of corporate at Allen & Overy Moscow (1995-8).

He has long experience of dealing with business-related legal problems in transition economies, including those with civil law as well as common law based legal systems.
