HMG decision on 2 September 2024 to suspend arms sales to Israel comes just a month before judicial review challenge brought by NGO, Al Haq, was due to be heard by the Administrative Court in which Rachel Toney is acting junior Special Advocate. Rachel has been heavily involved over the summer in work preparing the case for a substantive hearing in early October 2024. At a hearing before Chamberlain J on 3 September 2024, Al Haq welcomed the decision but says it should have been made from the outset. The parties are now considering the implications of the latest decision on the existing proceedings and whether or not a fresh challenge will be brought.
Rachel has been nominated for Human Rights and Public Law Junior of the Year (Chambers and Partners).
