Nadia Silver, instructed by the CPS East Midlands Complex Casework Unit, and led by Michael Duck KC, from No5 Barristers’ Chambers, prosecuted two women accused of stalking Kate and Gerald McCann.
Julia Wandelt falsely claimed to be the McCann’s daughter, Madeleine, who has been missing since 2007. Ms. Wandelt bombarded the McCann family with calls, text messages, and emails, and confronted Mr. and Mrs. McCann in person at their home address in Leicestershire. She claimed to have childhood memories of the McCanns and made repeated demands that they undertake a DNA test with her. She was unanimously convicted of harassment, after a five week trial, involving expert DNA and image manipulation evidence.
