Mary Prior KC awards James Bide-Thomas a red bag

James Bide-Thomas

Mary Prior KC, Head of 36 Crime, is pictured awarding James Bide-Thomas a red bag for his exceptional work in a complex murder where a child killed their father. The mother and next door neighbour assisted the offender thereafter.

The case involved significant amounts of telephone and CCTV evidence together with complex legal issues as to bad character and strategic decisions. Mary said “James’s work as my Junior on this exceptionally difficult case epitomises why junior advocates are awarded red bags by their Leaders.”

James provided excellence in advocacy in the Crown Court and the Court of Appeal. His skill at trial preparation, legal submissions and oral and written advocacy were first-class. Exceptional skill such as this must be recognised with a red bag.
