Lucy Reed KC’s Bar Council blog, “Transparency: Now can you see why it matters?”, is a reflection on how far the family justice system has come in embracing openness and why that progress matters.
In 2014, Lucy and fellow family lawyers founded The Transparency Project to challenge misconceptions about the so-called “secret family court” and to make family justice clearer and more accessible. Lucy was the chair of the Transparency Project until 2025. Over the last decade, transparency has moved from being viewed as controversial to becoming a mainstream and accepted principle within the justice system.
The blog was published on Monday 28th January and can be viewed here.
Lucy will be joining a panel discussion “Sunlight on the system: what next for open justice?” at the Bar Conference on Saturday 14th November.
