Annual Advocacy Competition 2024

The 36 Group Advocacy Competition is back!

In 2020, amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic, The 36 Group launched its Advocacy Competition, recognizing the struggles many aspiring barristers faced in securing relevant experience. This initiative aimed to provide a platform for talent to shine despite the adversities, and it did just that: the inaugural competition garnered tremendous response, with over 280 entries pouring in from 56 different institutions across the UK.

Now, in 2024, we are thrilled to continue this tradition of fostering talent and providing a pathway for aspiring advocates to showcase their abilities.

Designed to identify and reward the most promising advocates, this competition is open to law degree students, GDL conversion course participants, BVC completers, and those awaiting the start of their GDL or BVC studies.

Applicants are invited to submit either an oral or written presentation showcasing their advocacy skills, in alignment with the guidelines provided in the competition pack, which can be downloaded below.

Successful candidates will then be notified and progress to the second round, with submissions required by May 24th, 2024. Finalists will receive notification by July 19th, 2024.

The top 10 highest-scoring applicants will secure a one-week mini-pupillage at The 36 Group.
