IAFL Conference Istanbul 21-25 May 2025

Marisa Allman and Joanne Ecob

Joanne Ecob and Marisa Allman from 36 Family attended this hugely successful and enjoyable conference in Istanbul.

Particular highlights of the excellent educational programme were:

  1. A session focusing on navigating family law across diverse religious contents form an international perspective chaired by from Turkish lawyer Mert Yalcin (who also threw everyone a fantastic party at his Istanbul offices).

They heard from:

  • Mani Basi Singh barrister and judge of the Sikh Court as to the workings of that court
  • Diana Hamade lawyer from Dubai as to the uncertainties of the current changing legal framework for Muslims and Non Muslims in the UAE
  • Alexandra Tribe of Expatriate Law as to the intricacies of advising international families in England as well as cross border jurisdictional disputes
  • Marzia Ghigliazza from Italy and Delphine Eskinazi as to religious issues in their respective jurisdictions.

2. A particularly fascinating session on the experience of litigating in the Supreme Court in England and Wales from Mike Horton KC, in the USA from Richard Min and in Monaco from Christine Pasquier-Ciulla

This was a truly inspirational conference where it was possible to appreciate new perspectives and share knowledge in this warm international community. All in a spectacular setting in a culturally fascinating and extremely welcoming city.
