In the lead-up to International Women’s Day, 36 Crime hosted the Women in Criminal Law (WICL) Clerks Mentoring Event, a seminar designed to support and empower women working in criminal clerking. The event, held on 22nd January, brought together criminal clerks from across the profession to share experiences, discuss challenges, and explore strategies for career progression in a collaborative and supportive environment.
This clerks-only event provided a platform for meaningful discussions on the realities of clerking, with attendees exchanging ideas on best practices and professional development creating a stronger network within the legal community.
The event was met with enthusiastic feedback, with attendees highlighting its impact on their professional growth and the importance of continued dialogue in the industry.
Ellie Jones, Practice Manager (Red Lion Chambers), shared: “The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with other women in clerking and discuss our shared experiences. It is so important to have these conversations to support each other and find innovative ways to progress in the profession.”
Abbi Bradshaw, Practice Assistant (Red Lion Chambers), added:”I left the event feeling inspired by the stories shared and the ideas discussed. It is great to see more focus on women in clerking, and I’m excited to apply some of the techniques we talked about to my own work.”
Other attendees echoed similar sentiments:
6KBW College Hill: “Thank you for having us! We look forward to the next event.”
Zoe Preston, Senior Clerk (Great James Street Chambers), commented: “The event was insightful and productive. I wish the event was longer as I very much enjoyed the discussions and could have continued for hours.”
