Sophie joins the Bar as a highly regarded solicitor with over three years post-qualification experience. As a public law solicitor, Sophie has represented clients at every level of Tribunal and Court, including before the Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights. Most recently Sophie was a lead solicitor in the judicial review challenge to the government’s ‘Rwanda policy’. She was awarded ‘Times Lawyer of the Week’ for her work on this case.

Sophie has represented vulnerable individuals as well as NGOs and trade unions. Sophie represented the Public and Commercial Services Union in a successful challenge to the Secretary of State for the Home Department’s policy to ‘pushback’ boats in the channel. She represented a Core Participant in the Brook House Inquiry into mistreatment at the immigration detention centre.

Sophie completed her training contract at Farrer & Co, where she sat in the Employment, Corporate, Contentious Trusts and Private Immigration teams.

She has appeared regularly on BBC News, Newsnight, Sky and CNN, providing legal commentary on refugee law and human rights.

Sophie has more recently gained experience in Employment, Education and Housing and undertakes junior work in these areas.

AAA & Ors v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2023] UKSC 42 – Sophie represented asylum seekers in the landmark successful challenge to the UK government’s ‘Rwanda policy’

R. (on the application of Public and Commercial Services Union) v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2022] EWHC 823 (Admin) – Sophie represented the Home Office’s trade union body in a challenge against the Home Office’s ‘pushback policy’

N.S.K. v. the United Kingdom (application no. 28774/22) – Sophie represented an asylum seeker who succeeded in obtaining an interim measure from the European Court of Human Rights preventing his removal from the UK.

Sophie represented a Core Participant in the historic Brook House Inquiry into mistreatment at the Immigration Removal Centre.
