Mary Prior QC secures acquittal for the youngest ever child accused of terrorism
Mary Prior QC secured the acquittal of a 14 years old boy accused of preparing acts of terrorism under section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 today at Leicester Crown Court. The child who cannot be named for legal reasons was accused of preparing acts of terrorism in that he researched and made bombs, prepared tutorial videos as to how to make bombs, began to prepare IUD devices, made videos explaining his desire to be a martyr for IS and that he was intending to commit acts of terrorism. His defence was that he was doing all these things to obtain attention from his mother. The case involved the cross-examination of a world renowned expert on IS and terrorism. The child gave evidence for 2 1/2 days with the assistance of an intermediary. Mary Prior QC led Delroy Henry from Citadel Chambers.
