The 36 Group moves to impressive new premises & Stone Chambers join as ‘36 Stone’

25th June 2018

Due to its continued expansion and successes, The 36 Group is soon to move to prestigious new premises.  Having completed the acquisition on Friday 22nd June 2018, Chambers plans to transfer its operations to the magnificent, detached building at 4 Field Court, overlooking the lawns of Gray’s Inn.  Work has already begun to design and to create what will be an unrivalled, modern Chambers in the heart of legal London, offering state of the art conference facilities and an ADR suite.

Chambers is also delighted that the renowned, specialist shipping set, Stone Chambers, has joined us, together with their Executive Officer, Luke Irons.  The 36 Group, which traces its unbroken history back to the 1880s, will now number more than 140 members, including 20 Silks.

The expansion, which also sees the acquisition of a Singapore office and a Hong Kong connection, will add to The 36 Group’s ever-growing international presence, it having existing members based in Dubai, Delhi, Dublin and Johannesburg.

The 36 Group is currently divided into three principal and distinct specialist brands, each market-leading in its own right: 36 Family (comprising International, Family Finance, Private Children and Modern Families, Care Proceedings and Family ADR), 36 Crime (including particular specialist sub-practice groups in Cybercrime, Consumer / Trading Standards and Extradition) and 36 Civil (comprising Commercial (including Aviation and Art), Property, Employment, Immigration and ADR).

To these groups, The 36 Group is now proud to be adding 36 Stone, with its well-established expertise in Shipping and International Trade.  Among 36 Stone’s highly-ranked counsel are Elizabeth Blackburn QC, Vasanti Selvaratnam QC, Dr Colin Ong QC and Professor Charles Debattista.

Richard Wilson QC, Joint Head of Chambers at The 36 Group, said, “Chambers is thrilled by the acquisition of such impressive new premises and our being joined by the specialist Stone team.  This will both widen the range of specialist services we offer and allow us to do so from premises of an unmatched quality, propelling us further forward, both domestically and in the international marketplace.”

Elizabeth Blackburn QC and Vasanti Selvaratnam QC, Joint Heads of 36 Stone, added, “This is an exciting opportunity to continue to provide the same client-facing and user-friendly service that has come to be associated with the Stone brand.  We look forward to providing from within The 36 Group a cutting-edge level of skill and attention to our shipping, international trade and arbitration clients in this country and abroad.”

The 36 Group and 36 Stone confirm that, during the move, clients will continue to receive the same top-quality services, thanks to a carefully planned transition over the summer months in readiness for a move in the autumn.
