Rebecca Herbert successfully prosecuted the trial of child sex offender Keith Chapman at Nottingham Crown Court
Rebecca Herbert successfully prosecuted the trial of child sex offender Keith Chapman at Nottingham Crown Court. The Defendant was convicted of 15 counts of child sex abuse, including buggery, relating to offences he committed against two young boys, when he himself was a teenager in the early 1990s. The judge HHJ Burgess sentenced the Defendant to a total of 15 years imprisonment, describing the damage he had caused to the two victims as huge. The case was investigated by officers from Nottinghamshire Police under the umbrella of Operation Equinox, a far-ranging enquiry into historic child abuse in Nottinghamshire children’s homes over the half century. Although the offences had not been committed in a children’s home, one of the victims, whose childhood spiralled out of control as a result of the abuse, was taken into care, and contacted police having heard about enquiries into Beechwood Children’s Home, where he also suffered abuse.
Rebecca is instructed counsel for Operation Equinox cases, many of which are due to be tried in the coming year.
