Shyam has a wide-ranging civil practice, focusing predominantly on commercial litigation. He is regularly instructed to appear as sole counsel in the High Court, County Court and various first-tier tribunals. Shyam has proved himself able to grapple with complex cases and is regularly instructed to advise, draft statements of case and to deal with pre-action matters.
Shyam recently acted as the second junior in a two-week high-profile commercial litigation trial against a major auction house concerning a high-value piece of art.
Prior to joining the Bar, Shyam undertook an internship at the Home Office within the Strategic Centre for Organised Crime during which he carried out work that was presented to cabinet ministers and was in regular contact with senior civil servants.
Shyam also worked for over a year as a legal writer and researcher for Sparqa, a London-based start-up company providing online legal information for small and medium-sized companies. Shyam was an integral member of the team helping to create and formulate content to suit the users’ needs. At Sparqa, Shyam wrote and edited content on multiple areas, including intellectual property, employment and company law. In addition, Shyam worked as an editor with Sparqa’s sister company, FromCounsel (a comprehensive online corporate law resource).
Alongside these above roles, Shyam spent three years organising and coordinating the activities of Ashiana Charitable Trust, a charity based in North London that helps the social development of children and young adults with learning disabilities. He is still an active volunteer with the charity.

Shyam has appeared both for and against multinational corporations in the High Court and County Court, often achieving successful outcomes for whichever side he is on. He was recently successful in the Chancery Division of the High Court in setting aside default judgment entered against his clients by Unilever PLC and Unilever NV.
Shyam is regularly instructed as sole counsel by a major telecommunications company to deal with their various contractual disputes.
Shyam is developing a strong company law practice. He has appeared in the High Court in a case management hearing concerning the breach of a director’s duties and has been instructed at the pre-action stage in a matter concerning preferential payments to creditors.
Further, prior to joining the Bar, Shyam worked with FromCounsel as an editor. FromCounsel is a comprehensive online corporate law resource tool and Shyam gained much experience in company law from his time there.
Shyam accepts all forms of insolvency instructions.
Shyam has appeared in the winding-up court in the High Court, Chancery Division and has also advised a local authority on its position should a major services provider they contract with become insolvent.
Shyam has appeared in multiple trials and preliminary hearings in the employment tribunal. He has appeared on behalf of both claimants and respondents with trials often lasting for several days.
He represented the successful claimant against Asda Stores Ltd in a 2-day unfair dismissal trial. He also conducted a settlement for the claimant on Day 2 of a 6-day trial concerning a variety of claims, including for unfair dismissal, pregnancy/maternity discrimination and harassment.
Shyam has also been instructed to appear in judicial mediations.
Shyam often appears on behalf of a major airline defending flight delay compensation claims under Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004.
Shyam has been instructed on multiple possession hearings for both the claimant and defendant concerning the Housing Act 1988.
Landlord & Tenant
Shyam is regularly instructed in Landlord & Tenant disputes to either appear at court or to draft statements of case.
He has recently been instructed by the defendant landlords of a commercial property with issues arising under Part II of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954.
