Julie is an experienced criminal practitioner whose tenacity as an advocate has gained her a reputation as a formidable opponent, whether prosecuting or defending.
She has an extensive criminal practice, regularly appearing in cases of the most serious nature including murder, attempted murder, GBH, rape, human trafficking and modern slavery, drug trafficking, money laundering, blackmail, kidnapping, false imprisonment, child cruelty and large scale public violence, and has been instructed in such cases both as junior and lead counsel.
She has a particular skill in dealing with sensitive cases including serious violent and sexual offences towards adults and children, having extensive experience of cases involving young and vulnerable witnesses and defendants, and those with disabilities, special needs and mental health issues.

Lee Buff (Leicester 2018)
Historic rape and sexual abuse in domestic environment involving violent and controlling behaviour over a number of years during the currency of the relationship, including rape of his wife immediately following a Caesarian section. Convicted and sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment.
Dennis Damon (Leicester 2018)
Convicted after trial of the historic rape and sexual abuse of his step-daughter on a regular basis when she as aged between 8 and 15 years. Sentenced as an offender of particular concern to a total of 16 years’ imprisonment.
Ashley Hall (Leicester 2018)
Secured acquittal for 18 year old charged with domestic abuse and rape of his girlfriend having uncovered material previously undisclosed by the Prosecution. This prompted a complete review of the case and a decision by the Prosecution not to proceed in light of the material significantly undermining the Prosecution case.
Harem Hassan (Leicester 2017)
Secured acquittal for asylum seeker accused of sexually assaulting a male student, the two having met during a night out in Leicester city centre. Careful analysis of CCTV and telephone evidence revealed relevant material which was used to undermine the Complainant’s account in cross examination.
R v Nguyen, Nguyen & Tran (Stafford) 2017
Prosecution of conspiracy involving the trafficking and slavery of young vulnerable Vietnamese females being moved around the UK and required to perform forced or compulsory labour in nail bars, in the Defendants’ successful businesses. Defendants convicted following a virtually victimless prosecution spanning three police forces, and involving complex issues of law and fact, telephone records and cell-site analysis, significant financial records and circumstantial evidence. Legal arguments included submissions of no case to answer, admissibility of age assessments including dental ageing and Merton assessments.

Prosecution for offences of drug trafficking offences, trafficking and forced or compulsory labour involving a vulnerable Lithuanian male.

Prosecution of multiple Defendants for modern slavery offences and money laundering offences (on-going). Involved in case from pre-charging stage, providing advice on investigative issues and charge.
R v Wilkinson (Birmingham) 2017
Successful prosecution of large-scale arson involving the Birmingham indoor market which resulted in damage of over £500,000. Expert evidence and complex analysis of CCTV footage requiring skilful presentation.

Secured acquittal in a trial involving allegations of rape and sexual assault against an asylum seeker. Allegations made by male having met up with the two Defendants in the city centre and having accompanied them back to their apartments.

R v Wright (Lincoln)
Leading junior in large scale child abuse case involving multiple victims. Numerous false internet profiles used to lure children into situations which led to the distribution of indecent images and direct sexual assaults. Defendant received an indeterminate sentence following conviction.
