Georgina Swinglehurst is a specialist family law barrister who acts in all areas of private family law, particularly financial remedy proceedings, private children disputes, international family law issues including child relocation, cohabitation disputes, and applications under the FLA 1996 (domestic violence).

Georgina was nominated for ‘Family Law Young Barrister of the Year’ at the most recent Family Law Awards in 2025. She has also been recognised as a “Rising Star (Tier 1)” in the Legal 500 for both financial remedy and children matters, as well as “Up and Coming” in Chambers and Partners for matrimonial finances.

Georgina joined 36 Family in June 2026, having previously practiced on the Western Circuit, where she continues to have a strong practice.

Prior to undertaking pupillage, Georgina worked at a leading London law firm in Mayfair, specialising in financial remedies and private children law for ultra-high net worth clients. These cases often involved complex financial structures, international aspects, pre-nuptial agreements, or large asset claims under Part III of the Matrimonial and Family Proceedings Act.

Georgina acts on behalf of all parties in private children disputes, including disputes about contact, education, relocation and residence. She has experience in handling complex cases involving allegations of significant domestic abuse, coercive and controlling behaviour, parental alienation, substance misuse, mental health issues and intractable contact disputes.

Georgina also acts for both applicants and respondents within Family Law Act 1996 applications for non-molestation and occupation orders.

Georgina’s approach to these cases is always client-centric and she strives to ensure that the client feels well-represented and confident when grappling with emotionally difficult situations.

 

Georgina has been instructed in cases in 1980 Hague Convention application in the High Court.

Georgina has also successfully represented clients to relocate out of the jurisdiction in Children Act proceedings.

Georgina has been instructed on a number of financial remedy cases with assets outside of the jurisdiction.

Georgina’s previous experience working at a leading London law firm and assisting with cases which regularly had an international element has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of these cases.

Before deciding to pursue a career at the Bar, Georgina was a professional dressage rider, a member of the Junior/Young Rider Great Britain Dressage Squads and was selected for the British Equestrian Federation Talent Squad.
