Practice Profile
Elizabeth is an experienced, fair and determined advocate practicing exclusively in criminal law. She undertakes criminal cases on behalf of both the Prosecution and the Defence. Her practice encompasses all areas of serious crime including murder, fraud, serious sexual offences, drug conspiracies and serious violent offences.
She has been a member of the CPS Rape and Serious Sexual Offences panel since 2013. She has a particular specialism in dealing with cases of a serious sexual nature appearing regularly for both the Prosecution and the Defence. She is very experienced when it comes to dealing with allegations of an historical nature.
Elizabeth has undertaken specialist training in dealing with vulnerable witnesses and has experience dealing with very young child witnesses and young defendants. She is known for her sensitivity in dealing with defendants and complainants both inside and outside of the courtroom and adapts her manner to fit the needs of the individual.
Elizabeth is a highly skilled jury advocate who has often been commended in relation to her jury speeches.
Elizabeth worked as an Attorney in the Department of Prosecutions in Belize and prosecuted 23 murder cases as sole prosecution counsel. She was then appointed as the first ever Attorney for the Belize Police Department. This position was created as a result of concern about the increasing number of homicides in the country and the failures in ensuring that the cases reached trial.The aim of the position was to ensure that the police investigations into murder cases were carried out properly and without contamination. She was given this appointment as a result of her fair minded approach to prosecution and diligent manner in which she worked.
