Sebastian Walker secures convictions on two separate indictments in relation to a defendant who in frustration threw a mixture of acids over another man’s face, neck and chest, causing the loss of 5% of his skin. The attack took place against a background of collective drug debt and at trial the defendant sought to argue the incident was self-defence arising from financial exploitation and threats. Following trial the defendant was convicted of throwing a corrosive substance with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (contrary to s.29 of the OAPA 1861).

Following the defendant’s arrest his home address was searched. The search uncovered a large amount of explosive material, requiring the attendance of the Explosives Ordinance Disposal team and the evacuation of 35 homes on the residential street. Quantities of HMTD (an explosive so sensitive it is not produced commercially or for military use), black powder and flash powder were found as well as a range of improvised explosive devices, the Anarchist’s cookbook and further recipes (some handwritten) for improvised explosive devices. The defendant ultimately pleaded guilty to 14 counts of creating explosive substances in severed proceedings.

Sebastian was instructed by the East Midlands Complex Casework Unit.
